The USCIS granted citizenship to 11,146 Service members in fiscal year 2010. this number of service members represents the highest number of service members who have naturalized since 1955. The number is also a 6 percent increase from fiscal year 2009.
Immigrants who serve in the armed forces are able to obtain citizenship in the United States without needing to meet as many requirements as immigrants who are not in the service. For those who have served since September 11, 2001 – the process is even easier. Since September 2001, 65,000 service men and women have naturalized.
